I soffitti in legno sono quanto di più caldo e d accogliente si possa creare in una abitazione. Originariamente erano portanti. Non potendo creare una volta in pietra od in mattoni il metodo più semplice era il legno. Travi, travetti, assito, generalmente quest’ultimo in essenza di pioppo mentre il resto in rovere. Il pioppo, in altre regioni  il castagno o l’abete, dipendeva dalla zona, ben si prestava a ricoprire ampie superfici, ad essere decorato, ed inoltre era relativamente resistente e leggero. Il rovere, verso le valli alpine il castagno,  era più adatto alla portanza strutturale. Legno compatto, molto duro, abbastenza resistente agli attacchi dei parassiti, se conservato al riparo dall’acqua può durare secoli diventando ancora più duro e resistente. Qui si possono vedere alcuni esempi sia di restauro effettuati in palazzi storici del centro di Torino, sia di costruzione ex novo, ed in questo caso il soffitto può essere portante oppure applicato da sotto ad una soletta preesistente. I campioni con esempi di decorazione sono rifatti in base a motivi originali. Nella fase, ormai storica o quasi, di ristrutturazione del centro storico di Torino molto spesso ci siamo trovati a rimuovere controsoffittature, fatte di canne e gesso, che occludevano alla vista il soffitto originale, di cui nel  19° secolo, in cerca di qualcosa di più moderno, si era venuti a noia  e che invece una volta rimosse rivelavano un vero “tesoro” in delicate  e raffinate decorazioni risalenti  in alcuni casi anche al secolo 16°. Ma abbiamo anche la possibilità di realizzare soffitti rivestiti con linee più moderne e che ben si adattano ad ambienti lineari e caratterizzati da arredamenti design.

The wooden ceilings are the most warm and inviting you can create in a dwelling. Originally they were carrying. Where you could not create once in brick or stone the easiest was the wood. Samples with examples of decoration are made according to original designs. In, or near, historic renovation of the historic centre of Turin, very often we found ourselves remove false ceilings made of reeds and plaster, which obstructed the view of the original ceiling, in whose 19° century, looking for something more modern, had come to boredom and that once removed revealing a true ‘ treasure ‘ in delicate and refined decoration dating back in some cases to the 16th century. But we also have the ability to realise ceilings lined with modern lines that are well suited to linear environments and furniture design.
