Questa tipologia di cornici risulta un po’ anomala perchè sia alcune modalità di costruzione che l’utilizzo finale sono un po’ diverse rispetto alla norma.
Il materiale utilizzato è naturalmente legno ma il tentativo è quello di recuperate tavole o pezzi che abbiano una venatura o una “patina” interessanti. Per “patina” si intende quello strato di ossidazione, polvere e consunzione dall’uso o dagli agenti atmosferici che i manufatti lignei accumulano strato su strato nel tempo della loro esistenza. E’ questo effetto che conferisce ai vecchi oggetti un’aura di serietà e di nobiltà che ci incute un certo rispetto e che tanto può affascinarci.
Di conseguenza c’è una ricerca effettuata nei magazzini dei raccoglitori di cose vecchie, nelle segherie ed infine dagli avanzi di talune lavorazioni nei laboratori di falegnameria . Alcune cornici sono state create con vecchi pavimenti, ed ecco che sulla superficie si potranno notare tutta una serie di segni , come graffi o buchi, poi macchie e variazioni di colore, a volte anche bruciature, che possono essere i lapilli di un camino o una sigaretta caduta e dimenticata, altre con vecchie tavole che hanno passato molto tempo esposte al sole e alla pioggia.
Naturalmente non è facile trovare delle lunghezze sufficienti a creare una misura regolare, ma d’altronde non è poi così necessario poiché non è quello che ci starà dentro ma la cornice in se stessa quello che ci interessa, cioè proprio le caratteristiche del legno sono il paesaggio che più ci affascina.
E allora ecco che le misure saranno le più disparate e alle volte anche le più assurde,apparentemente le più inutilizzabili per incorniciare le stampe, le foto o i poster con cui normalmente abbiamo a che fare.
Ma possiamo anche, invece che affidarci a qualcosa fatto da altri, utilizzare cose o oggetti che utilizzati a seconda del nostro gusto estetico creeranno un nostro paesaggio.
All’ interno della cornice ci sono infatti dei piccoli fori che servono proprio per infilarci ad esempio dei fiori secchi, dei sottili stecchi di legno raccolti sulla spiaggia o qualsiasi cosa sia di nostro gradimento e che si armonizzi con la forma della cornice, che potrà volendo con l’inserimento di un vetro riprendere la sua funzione originale.
